Moments in La Roma Neighborhood

On our final night in Mexico City, we stayed at a beautiful and quaint apartment in the Roma neighborhood. We had visited this neighborhood a couple of times earlier in the trip, for coffee, and bites, prior to checking into our digs. The neighborhood itself is charming, but the bright and airy apartment, just made it that much more memorable. The private patio, wide open windows, which let in the most perfect light during the day, and a dining table that I wanted to bring home, were all just as dreamy as they sound.

Just a few short steps away, we had access to two different taco vendors, and ice cream shop, coffee, and a small market. I think it was a toss up for the littles between the market selling kinder surprise eggs, and the ice cream shop being so close. They were spoiled! After checking in, and getting acquainted we set out for the Mercado de Medellin. It was less than a ten minute walk, and greeted us with open arms. Visiting markets throughout the world, is one of my absolute favorite things. It’s not only an opportunity to taste great food, but it’s the beauty of the cultures and people that really shine through. Our first stop was for some fresh fruit, and chia lemonades. Between bites of watermelon, and sips of the tangy yet refreshing beverage, Giovanni was so excited to talk about what we had seen so far for the day. He is at the age, where every new experience brings on about twenty questions, but hey, that just shows me that he is taking it all in.

We headed out of the market, back towards the street, but of course my little man could not leave without adding another luchador mask to his collection. He is building quite the colorful stash of masks. We definitely don’t get to experience the easy walking accessibility, to amazing spots from the comfort of our home in SoCal, so we literally walked for hours a day in Mexico City, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. We did bring a lightweight stroller, which both kids switched places in throughout the day, but I think they got a kick out of exploring by foot just as much as we did.

We headed back to our adorable Airbnb rental right before the sun began to set, and enjoyed some time just relaxing before it was time to head back on our flight to Tijuana the next day. These two did an amazing job throughout the entire trip, but it is so nice having a spot to come back to as the day begins to come to an end, and we all get too overtired.

Oh Roma neighborhood, you took a little piece of my heart with you!
