Restaurante Milpa: The quintessential Valle de Guadalupe spirit

Milpa, Valle de Guadalupe

Exploring the ins and outs of the dirt roads in Mexico’s wine country, is an ongoing adventure. Every time that we head down the coast, the second that we turn left towards the valley it’s as if a whole new world of wine land opportunities open up. We consider ourselves spoiled, when it comes to the countless options for great bites, and lovely bottles of wine that present themselves in this region.

It’s the times when we drive ‘off the beaten path’, with only a sign or two leading us toward the direction of a new restaurant or winery, that can end in such a rewarding experience. Case in point, ,meet Restaurante Milpa. Tucked away into the hills of the valley, this quaint restaurant is dishing out plates like carrot and beet salads, drizzled in a citrus dressing, Rib eye that has been aged, and then grilled to perfection, and that chorizo and octopus plate totally spoke to me. I am huge on textures when I eat. The saltiness from the chorizo, and the crunch from the tentacles on the octopus, are simply meant to be together. We paired our meal with a bottle of nearby Emeve’s Isabella white blend. Spring is in full swing over here, and a crisp, refreshing wine is begging to be shared.

The Valle de Guadalupe continues to amaze me. It doesn’t matter how many times that I have visited, it’s new gems like these that pop up, keeping it new and inspiring. It’s hard to sit here at home, and not want to be outside soaking up the sounds of nature, the aromas, and just the all around rustic vibe that this beautiful wine region is known for.
