Estación Central: New food, drinks, and travel hub pays homage to Tijuana's glory days

The 20s and 30s were thrilling decades in Tijuana and shaped much of what it is known for— food, drinks, and fun. Since then, travelers have flocked to the border city in search of a great time. If only, one could actually relive those days. Until now, many are unaware of the fact that Tijuana was the playground of the who's who in Hollywood, and also once rivaled Monte Carlo.

Ernesto Jimenez Macfarland has brought to life, Estación Central, a food, drink, and travel hub on Avenida Revolución. Inspired by Tijuana's glory days of refined jet-setters, Estación Central pays tribute to the city's history of sophistication and style— as the LA Times called Tijuana the "Vegas before Vegas was Vegas".

As you enter the building, a long bar/cantina greets you to the right, which pours craft beers and cocktails named after famed bars in the city. ‘The Central', a peach, mezcal, and beer-based cocktail will do the trick. To the left, the travel concierge facilitates information to travelers and is happy to set you up on an excursion in Baja. The ‘to-go bar’ serves espresso-based drinks, jugos, and wine by the glass. The kitchen is dishing out simple and classic dishes, which are a perfect pairing for your drink of choice. The space will also serve as a stage to host pop-ups for Baja chefs.

It may sound a bit cliché, but this is what Tijuana was missing. A place that truly honors the glory days of the city.
